Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medical treatment that involves the insertion of thin needles into specific points on the body, also called acupuncture points. This treatment can provide a variety of pain management, like headaches, digestive issues, and even emotional disorders, like reducing stress, anxiety, depression, improve sleep quality and alleviate insomnia.
Also, acupuncture encourages the body to promote natural healing and to improve functioning by inserting needles and applying heat or electrical stimulation at very precise acupuncture points.
The scientific explanation is that needling the acupuncture points stimulates the nervous system to release chemicals in the spinal cord, in addition to muscles and brain.
These chemicals will either change the experience of pain, or they will trigger the release of other chemicals and hormones which influence the body’s own internal regulating system.

What to expect?
Don’t worry, one of our therapists will guide you on how to proceed and how to relax for the procedure. After that, it may be necessary to remove some clothing, for this we provide towels that cover the body. The goal is to make you comfortable at all.
See below how we start:
- Needle insertion. Acupuncture needles are inserted to various depths at strategic points on your body. There is between 5 and 20 needles are used in a typical treatment. It is important to note that the acupuncture needles are very thin, so insertion usually causes minor discomfort. Usually we don’t feel them inserted at all. However, you may feel a mild aching sensation when a needle reaches the correct depth.
- Needle manipulation. We gently twirl or move the needles after placement, but still possible to apply heat or mild electrical pulses to the needles.
- Needle removal. In most cases, the needles remain in place for 15 to 20 minutes while you lie still and relax. Important: there is usually no discomfort when the needles are removed.
