Run and gait analysis is a process used to assess an individual’s running technique and biomechanics. It involves analyzing various aspects of a person’s gait while running. This includes stride length, foot strike pattern, cadence, posture, and overall movement efficiency.
The goals of a run and gait analysis typically include identifying any biomechanical issues or abnormalities that may lead to inefficiencies, discomfort, or injury during running. By pinpointing areas for improvement, the individual can receive tailored recommendations for adjustments to their running form. For example, footwear selection, strength and conditioning exercises, or training regimen.
Abnormalities or inefficiencies in a person’s gait, may lead to injury or decreased performance. At Revolve Physiotherapy our run and gait assessment is used as a way to figure out how gait efficiency can be increased. As a result, improve overall performance and reduce your risk of injury.
Run and gait analysis can provide several benefits, including:
Injury Prevention: By identifying any abnormalities or inefficiencies in an individual’s gait, a run and gait analysis will help to prevent injury by allowing for the development of a customized treatment or training plan to improve technique.
Performance Enhancement: A run and gait analysis can also help to identify areas for improvement in an individual’s running or walking technique, leading to enhanced performance.
Increased Awareness: Better understand your body’s movement and impact patterns, will help you a lot to advance in the performance of each point.
Tailored Treatment: Providing detailed information about an individual’s gait, a run and gait analysis can inform the development of a tailored treatment. Also, training plan to address specific needs and goals.
Early Detection: By identifying any potential issues early on, help to address problems before they become more serious.
Overall, a run and gait analysis provides valuable insights into an individual’s running mechanics. It will help them run more efficiently, comfortably, and safely.
Run and gait analysis is performed using various techniques such as video analysis, pressure analysis, and motion capture. We use those information to develop a customized treatment plan or training program.
When completing a run & gait assessment, it is likely that you will ask to run on a treadmill for a few minutes with differing speeds. We will record each speed of your side and your back. Our physiotherapist will then slow down each recording to pinpoint which areas are at risk for sustaining an injury. Also, which ones could use efficiency improvement.
If our team detects a fault, they may decide to conduct a physical evaluation. It will determine the underlying causes of said fault by examining the joint(s) and muscle capacity. We will design a treatment plan to correct the fault.
