The trapezius muscle is a large muscle located in the upper back and neck region. Firstly, it is responsible for shoulder movement and stabilization, as well as neck and head movement. Secondly, vast majority of people have already felt some pain in their shoulders related to the trapezius, which is very common.
At Revolve Physiotherapy we offer personalized treatment plans that are tailored to each individual’s needs and goals. After that, we weill provide exercises to improve range of motion, strength training, balance, coordination exercises and pain management techniques.
It’s important to warm up before starting any exercise routine!
Here are some exercises that target the trapezius muscle:
Shrugs: Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and hold a weight in each hand. Lift your shoulders up towards your ears and hold for a few seconds before lowering back down.
Upright rows: Hold a barbell with an overhand grip and lift it up towards your chin, keeping your elbows high and close to your body. Lower the bar back down slowly.
Face pulls: Attach a resistance band to a high anchor point, and hold the ends of the band with your hands. After that, pull the band towards your face, keeping your elbows high and out to the side.
Dumbbell rows: Place your left hand and left knee on a bench, and hold a dumbbell in your right hand. Further, pull the dumbbell up towards your chest, keeping your elbow close to your body. Lower the weight back down and repeat on the other side.
Farmer’s walks: Hold a heavy weight in each hand and walk forward, above all, focusing on keeping your shoulders stable and engaged.
