How to be active this summer!

Summer is only here for a short time so we have to make the most of it. But unless we have an in-home gym, staying active while avoiding the heat can be a little challenging.

The heat this summer has been at an all time high leaving us in desperate need for some air conditioning. So if we’re stuck inside what are some things we can do to keep moving while beating the heat?

Tips for at home

At home workouts can be a great addition to your day, anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour long. They can get your heart rate increasing all while in the comfort of your own home without any extra equipment!

Youtube has a great variety of different workouts. Targeting different areas of the body or using different methods like low impact or high impact routines.

If you’re working from staying motivated to stay active can be even harder. In this case we can start by setting simple goals like getting up every 10/15 minutes to walk around. Also, get some steps in or if you’re in back to back meetings maybe consider getting a walking desk. That allows you get your step count in for the day while staying productive at work.

These desks are a great addition to your home office. They don’t take up too much space and they don’t make a lot of noise either which sounds like a win!

Tips for outside

These are some great options if you want to stay in but what can we do outside to help us beat the heat but stay active. If your out and about for the day try to keep these tips in mind when the heat is at an all time high:

  • Carry lots of drinking water and stay hydrated
  • Walk on the shady side of the street to avoid direct contact with the sun
  • Plan your day to avoid going out when the sun is at its peak, this is usually between 11am and 3pm
  • Dress in the proper attire to avoid overheating

One of the all time best ways to avoid the heat outdoors is to go swimming! Going swimming actually has a lot of benefits for the body as well.

Doing some simple stretches in the pool or even just floating in the pool has been proven to have positive effects on the body.

The water in the pool helps support the weight of your body causing your muscles to relax and help ease the pain and pressure off your joints!
